Supporting Youth Mental Health Through Community Action

This Saturday, May 23, 2026, Dr. Kwaku Kusi-Appiah, President & CEO of Environmental Stewardship Solutions (ESS), will participate in the 10 km category of the Tamarac Race Weekend in support of Upstream Ottawa.

Upstream Ottawa provides essential, evidence-based mental health care for young people in Ottawa, with a focus on early intervention, accessibility, and dignity. As a board member of Upstream Ottawa, Dr. Kusi-Appiah has witnessed firsthand the organization’s commitment to bridging research, policy, and community practice to improve outcomes for youth.

The run is both a personal commitment & an extension of ESS’s mission: empowering communities through education, research, and meaningful action.

Environmental & social wellbeing are interconnected, & investing in youth mental health is a public good that strengthens the foundation of resilient, sustainable communities.

Thanks to the generosity of friends, colleagues, & supporters, the fundraising goal has been exceeded. ESS thanks all donors, & extends appreciation to the staff, board members, and clients of Upstream Ottawa for their leadership and trust.

ESS remains committed to advancing partnerships that translate knowledge into impact, whether through environmental stewardship, education, or public health.
